Welcome! It's an honor that you're here.
From our first encounter you will be greeted with the utmost humility and respect that you are in this space. It can feel quite vulnerable to invite a stranger into your life, and it is not a responsibility I take lightly.
In the first session, I will ask a lot of questions to get an overview of your life as it is now, as well as any goals you have for therapy. Then we will work together to create a plan to reach those goals.
We will also discuss what the therapeutic relationship will look like as well as practice policies. This is a great time to ask any questions about the therapeutic process, as well. Then we will move into what brought you to therapy.

An individual session lasts 50 minutes or one "clinical hour." There are designed to be 10 minutes between each client to allow for taking notes and any other tasks associated with your therapeutic progress.
As far as the duration of therapy, that is really up to you and your personal goals. Some clients get what they need in a few sessions, while others benefit from engaging in therapy over several months. Sometimes goals change as therapy progresses, and some goals take longer to reach than others.

Ruah Wellness operates out of network from insurance providers. This is a mindful decision that allows an additional layer of privacy and autonomy for your mental health needs.
Choosing to operate outside the bounds of insurance means:
notes, treatment plans, and diagnoses are not disclosed to your insurance provider
the number of sessions is determined by you and not your insurance
If you would like to submit superbills (receipts) to your insurance company for reimbursement of services, I can provide this at your request.
Please note superbills contain diagnosis codes and dates of service. Your insurance will be able to provide details including reimbursement rates and pay schedules.

Therapy ideally starts at one session per week before decreasing to biweekly, once a month, and then as needed. This is so you can gain the most skills and insight in the shortest timeframe possible. It also allows for skills and new habits to become routine more quickly, leading in a greater overall change in therapy.
However, there is room for uniqueness. I understand that your life is busy and you may need to adjust your frequency based on other commitments.

We are busier than ever these days, and many of us feel pulled in a thousand different directions. Sometimes having a virtual appointment is a relief because you can pop open your laptop or phone and have a session without the commute! Please note that virtual appointments require you to find a secluded space in your environment to ensure your privacy and confidentiality.

Counseling and therapy are basically interchangeable. Both require a license of some kind to perform, and different licensures may have different titles from State to State.
Coaching is different in that there is no degree or certification required to be a coach. As such, it is a less regulated field. Coaches also tend to focus on non-mental health related goals, such as growing your business

As a Christian and a therapist, I can provide support for clients who wish to integrate their Christian faith into sessions. If you practice a different faith or none at all, please know that is just as respected and honored. All are welcome here.
